Fall Colors on Sherado Lake

The cool, crisp autumn air brings with it a warm festive feeling. Apple picking, pumpkin patches, corn mazes and the best show of colors that mother nature can offer are synonymous with Fall. But trying to fit all this in our busy schedules can sometimes be a challenge. So if you have just a few hours to enjoy the beauty of Fall, check out these places below which are just a short drive away:

  1. Rock Creek Park, Washington, D.C.

Nestled in the nation’s capital this park offers hiking trails, bicycle paths, horseback riding and even boating to enjoy its beautiful display of Fall colors. Colors peak all the way til mid November and this serene oasis in the middle of the busy city never fails to disappoint.

  1. C&O National Historical Park, Washington, D.C.

Serving as a lifeline for communities settled around the Potomac River for almost 100 years, the C&O canal is now a natural and historical site. Hiking and biking are some of the popular ways to enjoy Fall at the park, but the best way to experience Fall colors is to take the mule drawn canal boat ride. The ride is like stepping back in time- it moves slowly, lastly about an hour with park workers dressed in period costumes telling tales of the past.
